About
The advent of digitalisation, the internet, and communication technology has transformed how individuals interact with each other. With access to people, knowledge, ideas, and cultures from across the globe available at one's fingertips, there has been a significant advancement in the ability to identify like-minded individuals, bring attention to concealed injustices, and demand one's rights.
However, in recent years, the drawbacks of this advancement have become increasingly apparent. Disinformation campaigns are being utilised to aggravate harmful polarisation among individuals and entire groups, prompting people to construe their political opponents, events, and opinions in a way that promotes intolerance and conflict. Given our constant connectivity, we are consistently susceptible to disinformation.
In order to safeguard our democracy and tolerance, it is imperative that we find ways to harness the positive aspects of new technologies while simultaneously mitigating our susceptibility to disinformation. This requires the development of sustainable strategies to fortify societal resilience while also preserving the liberties that the internet affords.
